The Politico lists “the new Hollywood left” — a group of 10 new movers and shakers destined to take over from the industry’s old guard in politics.
There are names that have gotten a lot of ink — Lawrence Bender and Ari Emanuel, for instance. Also among the names on the list: Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Michael Lynton, Brave New Films Rick Jacobs, producer Julie Bergman Sender, writer producer J.J. Abrams and Wild Brain CEO Charles Rivkin.
The Obama campaign in particular seems to have helped raise the profiles of a handful of the names. Lynton and Rivkin have been prominent fund-raisers for the candidate, as have Bender and Emanuel.
It’s also interesting to note that on the opposite end of the spectrum, no one has ever really filled the celebrity/political void after Charlton Heston retired from public life. His death last week only illuminated how much he was out there raising money for conservative candidates and pushing for gun rights.
