Jeffrey Ressner of The Politico lists Barack Obama’s real Hollywood friends — not the famous names, like George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson, that we have all heard about — but the ones he’s most likely to call upon when he is in L.A. The list includes fellow Harvard Law classmates Hill Harper, Nancy McCullough and Crystal Nix Hines, as well as fund raisers Nicole Avant and Jamie Lynton and Overbrook Entertainment’s James Lassiter.
The lack of heavy hitter moguls and famous stars underscores what many believe: Obama’s relationship with Hollywood is likely to be far different from that of Bill Clinton, who relished in mingling with celebrities and staying overnight at the home of high-powered execs.
They are two different personas, but the big reason is timing: The economic crisis demands that Obama not appear to be hobnobbing in Tinseltown, a concern that the candidate and his campaign have had all along. He’s kept somewhat of an arm’s length.
