Endemol taps Asia operations exec

Arjen van Mierlo named CEO of region

LONDON — Leading global content provider Endemol is stepping up its activities in Asia with the appointment of Arjen van Mierlo as chief exec of operations in the region.

Van Mierlo will be responsible for driving expansion in Asia, working with the group’s existing companies on the continent as well as setting up new production bases.

Endemol has local operations in India and Southeast Asia, as well as reps in China, Korea and Hong Kong.

Van Mierlo will work alongside the group’s central team in developing licensing and distribution operations as well as pursuing partnerships with local and regional parties, including the acquisition of intellectual properties.

The exec, who joined Endemol in 2000, was previously head of international operations, responsible for the group’s global business development, corporate development and mergers and acquisitions.

He will take up his new role early next year and will be based in Hong Kong, reporting to Marco Bassetti, chief operating officer of Endemol.

So far this year, the group has secured commissions for more than 35 series across nine territories in Asia, including “Big Boss” and “Fear Factor” in India; “1 vs. 100” and “International King of Sport” in China; “1 vs. 100” in Korea; “Deal or No Deal,” “Fear Factor” and “Dream Academy” in the Philippines; and “1 vs. 100” and “The Last Passenger” in Indonesia.

Endemol comprises an international network of companies that spans 25 countries on five continents, including the U.S., the U.K., Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the Netherlands, as well as Latin America, South Africa and Australia.
