David Grant sues Fox TV

Former TV studio head files suit for missing cash

Former Fox Television Studios prexy David Grant has filed suit against Fox, claiming the studio still owes him more than $1 million in bonuses.

Suit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court points to a clause in Grant’s employment contract in which Fox committed to paying him a one-time bonus of up to 5% of the “cumulative profits” generated by Fox TV Studios, up to a maximum of $1.25 million.

Grant’s complaint maintains that Fox TV Studios “has achieved sufficient profits to warrant this maximum bonus payment, yet (Fox) has paid none of it.”

According to the employment agreement included as part of Friday’s filing, the contract language regarding the one-time bonus payment called for the studio to negotiate with Grant’s reps the time frame for which the Fox TV Studios profits were to be computed. Suit claims Fox has failed to engage in any negotiations on this point.

Grant had a five-year deal to run Fox TV Studios starting in July 2001, but he was replaced as the division’s prexy in mid-2004. Suit also claims Grant is due additional coin for annual salary-based bonuses under the terms of his deal but does not specify the amount.

According to the agreement, Grant was to receive a bonus of 25% of his salary for each year that the company had an operating profit, or $112,500 if the company did not make a profit. Grant earned a salary of $825,000 in the first year of his deal, and climbed to $975,000 during his last year at Fox TV Studios, according to the suit.
