Julius Genachowski rumored to be favorite

Rumors are heating up in D.C. that President-elect Obama will name Julius Genachowski to head the Federal Communications Commission.

The Washington Post reported Friday that the announcement could come as early as today. Obama held a news conference Friday afternoon to announce his final cabinet picks but did not address the FCC post.

Genachowski is a Harvard Law School pal of Obama’s and has been a top advisor to his campaign on tech and telecom policy issues. Genachowski worked at the FCC in the 1990s as a top aide to chairman Reed Hundt. He also worked in showbiz as a business development exec at Barry Diller’s InterActiveCorp. and its predecessors.
