’60 Minutes’ nabs first Obama interview

President-elect schedules first post-election chat

And the first post-election interview with the incoming president goes to … CBS’ “60 Minutes.”

Longtime correspondent Steve Kroft will sit down with President-elect Barack Obama and future first lady Michelle Obama on Friday in Chicago, the Eye said Thursday. The segment will air Sunday.

Length of segment is not yet set, but previous interviews with presidents and candidates have usually run longer than the usual 12-13 minute “60 Minutes” segment.

Kroft and a camera crew spent election night with some of the then-candidate’s senior aides for a segment broadcast this past Sunday. The show pulled in 18.5 million viewers, with a little help from a football lead-in.

The decision to give the coveted sitdown to “60 Minutes” marks the second time Obama has favored the venerable CBS newsmag. He and Vice President-elect Joe Biden went with the show for their first joint interview after Biden was named to the ticket in August.
