South African Corp. to appeal Mpofu suspension
JOHANNESBURG — The South African Broadcasting Corp. will appeal Monday’s High Court ruling setting aside its May 7 suspension of CEO Dali Mpofu for failing to implement the decisions of the pubcaster’s board.
The announcement was made Wednesday by board chairperson Khanyi Mkonza, who was herself criticized in Judge Moroa Tsoka’s ruling for behaviour “falling short of a director who should act independently.”
The Johannesburg High Court ruled that Mpofu’s suspension was unlawful because the board meeting where it was decided did not follow the correct legal procedures. Mpofu and other executives were excluded from the meeting.
Mkonza said the SABC board would continue its own probe into Mpofu’s conduct.
