Dr.Phil is just beginning. He was/is all over the interview show circuit today and Tuesday in New York as he launched his sixth season–and he’s also interviewing subjects for a network special. This next one, as yet untitled, will deal with the subject of Hollywood kids–and their parents.
He’s already taped a talk with Candy Spelling–in the well-chronicled Spelling Holmby Hills mansion. Son Randy Spelling, who occasionally lives there, was present during the taping–but he was not on camera for the show. Tori Spelling, who was lavishly married (for the first time–and since divorced) in the house, was not there. Candy talked of her (and Aaron’s) “discipline” with the children, teaching them “responsibilities, charities, shortcomings.”
She was not a “stage mother”–after all, Aaron was the stage father, launching Candy’s career on his series. Dr.Phil is setting the stage in New York, Tuesday, to set future subjects. Meanwhile, he is emphasizing “common sense is making a comeback” on the new season of his regular show
Worth quoting: In announcing that Gil Cates will produce the 80th Oscar show–his 14th–Academy President Sid Ganis told me, “Gil is the Crown Prince of Academy Award producers”
Worth noting: The lead on my column, September 12, 2001: “It’s not a GOOD MORNNG–and it will not be for a long time to come.”
