Showbiz Acting Political

Lansing_sherrySherry Lansing and Billy Friedkin again graciously opened their hilltop Bel Air home to a Washington visitor.  This time it was for U.S. Senator Jim Webb “In support of the Born Fighting PAC.” The junior senator from Virginia (whose election tipped the Congressional count to the Demos’ slight favor) is no stranger to the Friedkins.  He wrote the original screenplay for Friedkin’s “Rules of Engagement,” which starred Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson. Webb was also a prolific writer of many magazine articles, one of which he told me later prohibited him from getting a visa to China. Add Webb’s showbiz affiliation like Rob Reiner, who was among guests at the Friedkins’. Webb had written a screenplay for Reiner’s Iraq-set “Whiskey River.”
