Leonard Nimoy was back in makeup this week donning those ears again for the cameras as Spock in the next “Star Trek” feature while William Shatner was in front of the “Boston Legal” cameras completing the fourth season.
Shatner and James Spader were in full U.S.Coast Guard Officer’s uniforms — and laughing hysterically in the final scene on this week’s airing of their TV’er. “And you haven’t seen anything yet,” Shatner could barely stop laughing again as he indicated both of them would be bared in the water in an upcomng seg “and Spader is afraid of the water — and can’t swim.” Shatner added, “When we get these scripts from David (E. Kelley), we wonder, ‘How are we going to do this with a straight face’?”
But what about “Star Trek?,” I asked Shatner. “J.J. Abrams (director) doesn’t want me,” he said. Howcum? “I asked Leonard (Nimoy) and he said he’s bound not to tell. I called him and asked ‘Am I in it?’ and Leonard said, ‘No you’re not.’ He is bound not to discuss it.”
Meanwhile Shatner (“Captain Kirk”) will be the “celebrity ambassador” of the giant “Star Trek — The Tour” which takes off Jan.15 at the Queen Mary Dome in Long Beach. It boasts 250 tons of original “Star Trek” material in original sets of the film-series on two football-fields with opportunities ($35, top tix) to pose with replicas of people-places, etc. Shatner will appear at the opening Jan.18 and mebbe at some of its 40-city sites over the five year tour planned.
Shatner was coy about saying whether or not he participates in the boxoffice of the tour — but you can be sure he’s not doing it for his health — “I’m not altruistic,” he laughed. And he also has a book to sell “about Kirk and Spock.” Shatner adds to his other TV ventures with a talk show for A&E to launch next year — “If we go back to work,” he reminds. In the show, “William Shatner’s Raw Nerve,” “I will try to reach some depth in my interviews with celebrities as well as civilians. I can get people to react to me,”
