Mel Explains

Mel Brooks explains why Cloris Leachman is not going to play Frau Blucher in the Broadway musical version of “Young Frankenstein.”  “We’re afraid the show might stop her — it could kill her,” he said. “It would be too arduous with eight shows a week, eighteen songs.” (Blucher’s sings four of the tunes.)  “We don’t want her to die on stage.”  Cloris explained that Mel phoned her to tell  his feelings, She  told us this when we saw the very glamorous Cloris on Thursday night at the AFI Life Achievement Award gala at the Kodak and much later at the post-party. Brooks said Andrea Martin would play Frau Blucher.
