Kate and Spence Cast

Glenn Close will play Katharine Hepburn and Brian Murray is Spencer Tracy in John Dayton’s play “Spence and Me.” Jerry Zaks directs the debut reading on July 23 at the home of David Brown who produces with Bill Self.

Close’s many B’way performances include that as Norma Desmond in “Sunset Blvd.” Brian Murray’s long list includes “The Rivals,” “Little Foxes,” “The Crucible,” and recently as Alec Baldwin’s father in “30 Rock.”

Close portrays Hepburn at 60 and Brian Murray plays Tracy at 67, coincidentally the same age for both.  It is, of course hoped, they will also wend to B’way in Dayton’s play.

Close will be seen in another exhibit of her versatility on July 24 in the launch of “Damages” on the FX channel with a sendoff sponsorship by Cadillac.

  1. Jim Morgan says:

Glenn Close is perfect for the part. She will be able to bring New England flavor and bite into the characterization, and not sound silly.
