Stars let their hair down in Ashford, Ct. on Saturday (Sept.15) for the annual Hole In The Wall Gang Gala. Once again, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward lead the list of celebs performing for a celeb audience that arrives from N.Y. and all points for the all day event.
The day launches with an afternoon picnic from 1pm to 3 pm, during which the silent auction is held. It segues into a one-of-a-kind live auction at which six-figures is often raised. With everyone in a celebratory mood the gala performance starts at 7:30. In addition to Paul and Joanne those, so far, set to be on stage include: Renee Zellweger, Lisa Loeb, Kendrick Jones, Kelly O’Hara, and John Pizarelli.
Newman segues to another love on the 28th when he will be racing at Lime Rock.
Meanwhile Saturday night in Beverly Hills, Norm Crosby celebrates his 80th birthday. He continues to work dates across the country — and at sea, on cruises — six-seven a year. He plays theaters, corporates dates, “the condo circuit” in Florida. “I’m as busy as I want to be be,” he admits.
He was to have made a presentation to his personal manager of 50 years, Bernie Brillstein. on Sept.19 at the Sportsmen’s Lodge but Crosby will be working — in Hawaii performing on a cruise ship gig. Crosby related tales of Brillstein lore. Other clients could match his. Brillstein’s client list over the years includes: Martin Short, Rob Lowe, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Jim Henson, Lorne Michaels, Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase etc…
Brillstein will receive the Talent Managers Association Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sportsmen’s Lodge where a tribute reel will boast many of his clients. “The best thing about a Life Achievement award,” says Brillstein, “is being alive to get it.”
