While the rest of you were taking Monday off from work, the Academy’s Oscars crew was busy at work at the Kodak.
Heading the troupe in the theater with producer Laura Ziskin was Acad president Sid Ganis. He’d just handed in his ballot. Remember that Tuesday at 5 p.m. is the deadline for delivering your votes.
Ganis admitted taking this much time to make his decisions mirrored the “wide open” races this year. He promised the show will demonstrate what the Oscars are for – movies — and they will be celebrated “beyond any show before.
“He was pleased with the anticipated turnout of nominees. All the major players, with the exception of sidelined Judy Dench will be on hand.
Helen Mirren had arrived over the weekend — again back from filming “Inkheart” in London. It had been hoped the film would have wound up, but she must return Monday morning after the Oscars for one more week’s filming . On Tuesday, (Feb.15) Helen’s husband, Taylor Hackford, hosts the Live Action and Animated Short Subjects nominees’ celebration at the Academy. He was a winner in ’69 for “Teenage Father” and he was also one of those responsible for saving the category’s presentation on Oscar show itself.
Regis Philbin tells me next Monday’s show will emanate from the ABC studios in Glendale at 6 ayem (Pacific time). I suggested he arrive at the studio in his tuxedo since the Sunday night Oscar partying will probably still be going on for the winners, Maybe they too would continue on in costumes?
