BERLIN — Animation producer-distrib BKN Intl. on Tuesday posted a record nine-month profit, due in part to the success of skeins “Zorro — Generation Z” and “Dork Hunters From Outer Space.”
Net profit climbed 12% to e5 million ($7.4 million) while sales grew 29.5% to $26.6 million.
BKN said the results reflect only 13 episodes of “Zorro — Generation Z,” which sets the fictional Mexican hero in the present day; and 18 episodes of “Dork Hunters From Outer Space,” about three alien heroes and their earthbound friends. That’s only half of the episodes in production for those two series, with the balance of the income phased into 2008.
Cologne-based company’s catalog encompasses 1,000 hours of programming, including toon series “Roswell Conspiracies,” “Rambo — The Animated Series,” “Lilly the Witch,” “Legend of the Dragon” and “Kong King of Atlantis.”
BKN, which has offices in London, Barcelona and New York, has made investments of up to $24.2 million in new TV and film properties this year, including costs related to its digital high-definition animation studios in Barcelona and London.
