Isaiah Washington is out at “Grey’s Anatomy.”
The actor who created a ruckus this past season with an anti-gay slur against castmate T.R. Knight at the Golden Globes, and an alleged one on the set, was released from his contract by ABC Studios.
Washington responded to the firing through his publicist, Howard Bragman, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.”
Washington played heart surgeon Dr. Preston Burke, who left his wife-to-be Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) on their wedding day on the show’s season finale.
It’s unknown whether the producers had planned to let Washington go after the season ended, but Burke had cleared the belongings out of his apartment after leaving Dr. Yang.
After the Golden Globes incident, some members of the “Grey’s” cast, most noticeably Katherine Heigl, took exception to Washington’s comments and said it had put a strain on the show. After the kudocast, the actor met with members of GLAAD and other organizations to make amends. He also recorded a public service announcement.
Washington has won two Image Awards for his work on the show and won a Screen Actors Guild Awards, with the rest of the cast, this year as well.
