Networks win New York ratings race

Because of last year’s Olympic Winter Games, it’s hard to compare Gotham news races in February 2006 and 2007. But one thing is clear from the recent sweep: WABC is the ratings winner across the board.

For Feb. 1-28, in the key demo ages 25 to 54, WABC took local news from morning to evening, and also continued its daytime domination with “Oprah.”

In two surprises, WCBS took third in Monday-Friday news races at 6 and 11 p.m., putting WNBC in fourth in the 25-54 demo.

Another winner in Gotham’s February sweeps was Univision, which took two out of three key races for the first time since using local PeopleMeters. Univision 41 won the highest overall rank ever for a Spanish-language TV station in New York. Channel 41’s 6 p.m. local weekday news also got the biggest audience ever in New York for a 6 p.m. Spanish-language TV news program, not only scoring a personal best, but also beating English-language TV stations WNBC, WCBS and WNYW in adults 25-54.
