LONDON — Virgin Media’s new flagship entertainment channel has snapped up U.K. rights to “The Riches,” the Fox Television Studios series starring Brit thesps Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver.
Virgin 1, which launches this fall, has already bought “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and the “Star Trek” franchise for its debut schedule.
“This is only the start of what our viewers can expect on Virgin 1,” said program director Celia Taylor. ” ‘The Riches’ embodies the spirit of the channel perfectly, by being unconventional and challenging to the viewer yet authentic and believable. We fought off intense competition from other U.K. networks to bring ‘The Riches’ to Virgin 1.”
“The Riches,” which is distribbed by 20th Century TV Distribution, was the second highest rating premiere on the FX web, with Driver picking up an Emmy nomination. It’s about a family of low-life con artists who steal the identities and lives of a super-wealthy suburban family.
