Virgin buys ‘Sarah Connor,’ ‘Star Trek’

Web commissions 'Real Exorcist'

LONDON — U.K. cable operator Virgin Media has been on a Hollywood spending spree to help ensure its new channel, Virgin1, makes an impact.

It has bought “Terminator” spinoff “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” from Warner Bros. and the entire “Star Trek” franchise from CBS Paramount, some 624 hours.

Additionally the male-skewed new web, which bows in the fall, is commissioning “The Real Exorcist” from Pilgrim Films, the first direct Virgin commission from a U.S. indie.

In a separate move, U.K. terrestrial web Channel 4 has won U.K. rights to highly anticipated new Disney skein “Dirty Sexy Money” via its output deal with Disney ABC Intl.
