Ukraine falls for Germany’s ‘Betty’

ICTV to air 'Verliebt' four nights a week

BERLIN — Ukrainian broadcaster ICTV has picked up “Verliebt in Berlin” (That’s Life), the German version of “Ugly Betty.”

The show, which recently ended its three-year run on Sat1, will air four days a week on ICTV beginning Tuesday.

“That’s Life,” which, like the ABC series, is an adaptation of RCN TV’s Colombian skein “Yo soy Betty, la fea,” has so far sold to eight countries.

In addition to Ukraine and France, where the show has become a huge hit on TF1, drawing audience shares of up to 55.8% in people under 50, “That’s Life” airs in Hungary, Bulgaria, the Slovak Republic, Latvia and French-speaking parts of Switzerland, Belgium and Canada.

ProSiebenSat1’s distrib division, SevenOne Intl., handles international sales for the telenovela, in which the protag is known as Lisa rather than Betty.

Telenovela phenom “Yo soy Betty, la fea” has sold around the world in its original and formatted versions.
