Season finale wins cable demo crown

Bravo’s “Top Chef” roasted the competish Wednesday night with its season finale, racking up the second best demo score in the net’s history.

The cooking competition’s 2.2 rating/6 share in adults 18-49 topped all other cable nets and also edged out ABC’s firstrun newsmag “Primetime” in the demo (2.1/5), according to Nielsen. It averaged 3.9 million viewers overall.

“Top Chef” was up 47% week to week, with its second-season finale demo average up 16% over the soph-season ender for its other hot reality skein, “Project Runway” (1.9/5).

Among all telecasts on Bravo, only the third-season finale of “Project Runway” last October delivered a larger 18-49 score (2.6/7).

Bravo also effectively used “Top Chef” to lead into new unscripted skein “Top Style,” which averaged about 1.8 million viewers overall at 11 o’clock. Series slides into the 10 o’clock slot next week.

Elsewhere, Fox’s “American Idol” (13.7/32 in 18-49, 31.85m) crushed everything in its path at 9 o’clock, and the net’s “Bones” prevailed at 8 (4.2/11, 12.40m) — drawing its best numbers in about a year.

ABC’s “Knight of Prosperity” finished sixth in 18-49 in its first try at 8:30 (1.9/5, 5.09m), even though the net kicked the night off with a solid second-place finish for “George Lopez” (2.8/7, 7.71m).
