IPTV platform bowed March 1
LONDON — Disney Channel has signed a deal for its three U.K. branded channels to be distributed on emerging IPTV platform Tiscali TV.
From this month Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney will be available as part of Tiscali’s kids pack, while Disney Cinemagic is to be offered as a stand-alone premium subscription channel.
The Disney channels are also available in Blighty on satcaster BSkyB and cable operator Virgin Media.
Disney’s decision to move the channels from premium to basic packages on these platforms a year ago has resulted in a 60% hike in audience share, according to the company.
Tiscali TV bowed March 1 and is available in London and the Southern England town of Stevenage, but plans to extend its footprint to other big urban areas in the U.K.
