IsaiahwashingtonIsaiah Washington, recently fired from "Grey’s Anatomy," will be returning to primetime this fall.

Washington will have a regular role in NBC’s "The Bionic Woman" starting in the second episode of the series and will appear in four consecutive episodes after that. The producers were looking to cast an African-American actor, and Washington’s availability became apparent after he was dismissed from "Grey’s."

NBC topper Ben Silverman said at TCA he had talked to Washington about the role while the actor was still contractually tied to "Grey’s" and was surprised when he suddenly found him available for "Bionic."

"I don’t understand," Silverman told Washington about the actor’s release from "Grey’s." "You’re a star on a huge television show." He went on to say, "The character created for him is very strong."

Washington went on "Larry King Live" recently and pleaded his case on the reasons behind the "Grey’s" firing.

"The Bionic Woman" premieres Sept. 26 and will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
