CBS gameshow slips in ratings

As it shifted to its regular night Wednesday, new CBS quizzer “The Power of 10″ saw a decrease in Nielsen wattage, falling 2 demo shares from its Tuesday performance, though it finished first or second in various categories.

According to Nielsen estimates, “Power of 10″ averaged a 2.0 rating/7 share in adults 18-49 and 7.8 million viewers overall in the 8 o’clock hour Wednesday — down from the scores for its inaugural airing the previous night (2.7/9 in 18-49 and 9.24 million viewers overall). It tied for second place in the timeslot among adults 18-49 with NBC’s repeat of “Most Outrageous Moments” (2.0/7 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall), with both shows 3 shares behind Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” (2.8/10 in 18-49, 7.6 million viewers overall).

“Power” did win its hour in total viewers — drawing the net’s largest overall audience in the time period since May — although in 18-49, its performance repped a modest 11% upgrade over the prior week’s delivery for repeats of “The King of Queens” (1.8/6).

Fox carried the night with “Dance” and an expanded hourlong edition of “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” at 9 (3.2/10 in 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall). NBC was solid in the 9 o’clock hour with “Last Comic Standing” (2.5/8 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall).

Lowlight of the evening was ABC, which put up minuscule numbers for firstrun episodes of scripted series that audiences rejected during the regular season: segs of comedy “Knights of Prosperity” at 8:30 (0.7/2 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall) and 9:30 (0.8/2 in 18-49, 2.1 million viewers overall) and drama “The Nine” at 10 (0.7/2 in 18-49, 1.9 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 3.0/10; NBC, 2.3/7; CBS, 2.2/7; ABC, 0.8/3.

In total viewers: CBS, 8.4 million; Fox, 8.2 million; NBC, 6.2 million; ABC, 2.4 million.
