Lightworks nabs rights to ABC movie

Lightworks Distribution, which specializes in uplifting programming, has acquired Latin rights to the ABC telepic “Have No Fear: The Life of Pope John Paul II.” Those rights include Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

The ABC movie focuses on Karol Wojtyla’s trek to become one of the most beloved popes of all time. Based on a story by Michael Hirst, Lorenzo Minoli and Judd Parkin, the film was produced by Five Mile River Films and toplines Thomas Kretschmann as the pontiff.

Lightworks prexy-CEO David Dreilinger said the telepic is “a testament to our commitment to further increasing our library of premium programming that appeals to a broad range of viewers.”

The telepic joins several other titles to be handled by Lightworks at NATPE, including “C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia,” which takes a probing look at writer C.S. Lewis. That program is a Lightworks Enterprises and BBC co-production.
