Non-erotic net debuts in fall on basic cable

Playboy TV Latin America & Iberia has launched Lifestyle TV, its first non-erotic channel, in the region. The basic cable net, to be available in September to all carriers, will feature original programming shot in Latin American locations as well as international pick-ups.

Playboy TV Latin America & Iberia is among the more robust interests of Claxson Interactive Group, a multimedia provider mainly owned by Venezuelan media conglom Cisneros Group of Cos.

A joint venture between Claxson and Playboy Entertainment Group, Playboy TV Latin America & Iberia registered the strongest growth in Claxson’s package of TV channels last year. In Mexico alone, Playboy TV posted a 33% growth while sister webs Private Gold and Venus rose 100% and 128% respectively.

In December, Claxson sold its feevees Fashion TV, HTV, Infinito, I.Sat, MuchMusic, Retro and Space to Turner Broadcasting System, Latin America. These seven nets reach some 51 million subs in the region.

Claxson maintained its interests in Playboy TV Latin America, Digital Latin America, DMX and Music Latin America, as well as its broadcast radio business in Chile and its broadband and Internet division.
