OMG, even James Spader looked embarrassed but proved himself a class act

How could Emmy voters pick any one other than James Gandolfini for Jamesgandolfini lead actor in a drama this past season.

After the perf Gandolfini turned in on “Sopranos?” How in the world could this happen. “Brought the proceedings to a screeching halt,” sez my neighbor Stuart Levine. Well said. “It’s the Emmy’s equivalent of the blackout at the end of the ‘Sopranos’ finale. It’s the thing everyone will be talking about tomorrow,” sez my other neighbor, Variety’s David Cohen.

But in all fairness, Spader proved himself to be nothing but classy when he came backstage. “I thought it could’ve been anybody but me,” he said. “I really was sort of dazed and confused while up there. I had not prepared much to say. I just didn’t think it was going to happen tonight…I was pleased to be nominated and most importantly pleased that the show was nominated (for best drama), because I never really knew what category we would be nominated in unless they created a category, ‘What the hell is this?'”

I’m sorry, but anyone who is questioning Spader’s win just sounds like an idiot. It’s clear that you simply haven’t watched him on the show. Simple as that. There’s no question the guy is an amazing talent. Plus, it’s not even the first time the guy has won the Emmy…FOR THIS SAME ROLE. Hello…what is so shocking about it? And besides, are we not all just a little OVER James Gandolfini? The guy plays a great thug, but I’d like to see him try to deliver some of the multifaceted monologues that Spader does every week. And Hugh Laurie is great, too…they all are, of course. But hey, I don’t hear anyone bellyaching about how Denis Leary didn’t win. Why? Again…another AMAZING actor. The guy is so underrated it’s PAINFUL. Talk about an “upset” I’d like to see. But again, people are not WATCHING him, so they don’t know to be upset that HE didn’t win. If more people would wise up and start watching Boston Legal and Rescue Me, two of the BEST SHOWS ON TELEVISION in many years…there would be NO talk about a “shocking” upset. Maybe people should just take this as a sign that there’s actually some great stuff out there that they’re MISSING. I wish people would stop whining over something they clearly know NOTHING about.

If James Spader looked embarrassed, it was because Hugh Laurie should have been collecting the Emmy. Last season was Gandolfini’s weakest. Laurie, by far, turned in the consistently best performances of them all.
