Unscripted shows have been solid performers
NBC is giving early pickups to unscripted summer skeins “Last Comic Standing” and “America’s Got Talent.”“Last Comic” will return for its sixth season, while “Talent” is heading into its third season. Skeins have been solid performers this summer. “Both of these innovative series have proven to be summer staples and important franchises for NBC,” said Peacock alternative programming guru Craig Plestis. NBC’s renewals come in the wake of Fox’s decision to pick up new seasons of “Hell’s Kitchen” and “So You Think You Can Dance” last month. “Talent” is averaging a 3.6/11 in adults 18-49 this summer. Its average aud of 12.1 million viewers makes it the most-watched series of the frame, though some of Fox’s skeins outperform it in demos. “Last Comic” averages a 2.8/8 in the key sales demo, hitting a six-month time period high for the Peacock Aug. 1. Its overall average aud is 6.7 million viewers. Both skeins got major makeovers this year, with NBC bringing in new hosts and judges. “Talent” is produced by FremantleMedia North America and SYCO TV, while “Comic” is from Peter Engel Prods., Magical Elves and Universal Media Studios.
