Reality shows give network Tuesday victory

The combination of “Deal or No Deal” and the season finale of “The Biggest Loser” carried NBC to a rare Tuesday victory in key demos, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

In the night’s opening hour, ABC was strong with an encore of new holiday spec “Shrek the Halls” (3.4/10 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall) and a Christsmas favorite from years’ past, “Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too” (3.1/9 in 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall). But NBC was on par in demos with a special “Deal or No Deal” (3.1/9 in 18-49, 11.3 million viewers overall), while CBS hung in there with a repeat of “NCIS” (2.5/7 n 18-49, 11.8 million viewers overall) — the night’s most-watched program overall.

At 9 o’clock, the conclusion to this fall’s “Biggest Loser” (3.6/9 in 18-49, 9.8 million viewers overall) edged out Fox’s repeat of “House” (3.5/9 in 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall), with “Loser” hitting a season high. Further back in the pack were CBS’ special firstrun seg of “Cane” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall) and ABC’s repeats of “According to Jim” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall).

Closing out the night, ABC’s firstrun “Boston Legal” (2.5/7 in 18-49, 9.0 million viewers overall) edged past NBC’s repeat of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.4/6 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) and another episode of “Cane,” this one in its regular timeslot (2.0/6 in 18-49, 7.8 million viewers overall).

In total viewers: NBC, 9.3 million; CBS, 9.2 million: ABC and Fox, 8.0 million; Univision, 3.2 million; CW, 2.3 million.
