NBC devoted all of its primetime real estate Saturday to the day’s “Live Earth” concerts but snared less than 3 million viewers on average, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.
“Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis” averaged 2.7 million viewers from 8 to 11 p.m. on NBC, slightly below the 2.9 million that ABC averaged two years ago for its coverage of the Live 8 concerts. This left the net in fourth place for the night, lagging ABC’s 3.4 million, Fox’s 4.6 million and CBS’ 5.2 million viewers.
Nielsen estimates that 19 million Americans watched at least some of the concerts Saturday on the networks of NBC, including Bravo and MSNBC. Individual network averages for various dayparts were expected to be issued by Nielsen on Tuesday.
