Fox phenom “American Idol” delivered more boffo ratings Wednesday, with the net doubling the combined demo deliveries of ABC, CBS and NBC, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

Again turning over its entire night to “Idol,” Fox dominated from 8 to 10 o’clock with a 13.9 rating/34 share in adults 18-49 and 33.6 million viewers overall — peaking with a 15.8 demo rating in the final half-hour. Through its first four telecasts, “Idol” is up by 3% vs. last season in adults 18-49 (14.8/35 vs. 14.4/34) and by 4% in total viewers (35.5 million vs. 34.2 million).

NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” at 9 o’clock was the night’s highest-rated alternative to “Idol” (2.7/6 in 18-49, 10.1 million viewers overall), besting a repeat of CBS’ “Criminal Minds” (2.3/5 in 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall) and ABC’s comedy combo of “Knights of Prosperity” (1.4/3 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall) and “In Case of Emergency” (1.2/3 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall).

In the opening hour, Univision ran second to “Idol” with “Fea Mas Bella” (2.6/7 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall), with ABC laffers “George Lopez” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall for its season premiere) and “According to Jim” (2.1/5 in 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall) running third in demos. NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall), CBS’ “Armed & Famous” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) and CW’s “Beauty and the Geek” (1.3/3 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall) were all lower than usual opposite “Idol.”

Fortunately for the 8 o’clock competitors, “Idol” is scheduled to vacate the hour for the next three weeks, making way for the brief return of “Bones.”

At 10, a firstrun seg of the Eye’s “CSI: NY” (3.8/10 in 18-49, 13.4 million viewers overall) set the pace, followed by NBC’s “Medium” (3.1/8 in 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall) and ABC’s “Primetime: Medical Mysteries” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 13.9/34; NBC, 2.6/7; CBS, 2.5/7; ABC, 1.8/5; Univision, 1.8/5; CW, 1.1/3.

In total viewers: Fox, 33.6 million; CBS, 9.3 million; NBC, 8.2 million; ABC, 5.1 million; Univision, 4.3 million; CW, 2.7 million.
