RTL II will also bow 'Rome' on free TV

BERLIN – NBC’s hit series “Heroes” will premiere on Germany’s RTL II this fall.

The show, about a group of people who discover that they have abilities far beyond those of mortal folk, joins other high-profile U.S. hits hitting German TV this year.

RTL II will also bow “Rome” on free TV in July while pay TV platform Premiere will air the second season of HBO’s historical serial in September.

As for the much publicized “Prison Break,” the series premiered on RTL II’s parent network RTL Television on June 21 to disappointing ratings.

Among the 14-49 target demo, only 1.32 million watched the show. The 13.5% market share was well below par for RTL’s normally strong primetime lineup. Meanwhile, rival ProSieben is hoping to develop an inhouse hit by adapting the Israeli format “The Successor” starring self-proclaimed psychic spoon bender and telepath Uri Geller. The skein, in which Geller helps find a candidates with similar utensil-warping abilities, is set to air next year.
