MSNBC political director Tammy Haddad is ankling her post as exec producer of “Hardball With Chris Matthews” to focus on broader political coverage for the news net.
Haddad will not be replaced at “Hardball,” but host Chris Matthews adds the title of managing editor and will assume greater control over editorial direction of the show.
Haddad will continue to oversee MSNBC’s political coverage, including the net’s “Super Tuesdays” and events such as the upcoming “Hardball” college tour. She will have a role in producing MSNBC’s next three presidential primary debates.
“Hardball” is a distant No. 3 at 5 p.m. ET in cable news to Fox News Channel’s “Big Story With John Gibson” and CNN’s “Situation Room”; that’s certainly not where the net had hoped the show would be as the 2008 campaign heats up.
“Hardball” will be run day-to-day by the current staff, including Haddad’s former deputy, senior producer Ann Klenk.
