“American Idol” crushed its rivals yet again on Wednesday and the net’s “Bones” also won its time period on a night that saw ABC drama “Lost” fall to series lows — despite winning its hour in key demos.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “American Idol” (12.1 rating/29 share in adults 18-49, 28.5 million viewers overall) was up week to week and dominated its hour over CBS’ “Criminal Minds” (4.0/10 in 18-49, 15.4 million viewers overall), NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” (2.6/6 in 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall) and ABC’s repeat of “Lost” (2.1/5 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall). For the season, “Idol” is up about 5% vs. last year in both adults 18-49 and total viewers.

Opening the night, Fox drama “Bones” (4.1/11 in 18-49, 12.4 million viewers overall) comfortably won in key categories, with NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” (2.5/7 in 18-49, 7.4 million viewers overall) up slighly week to week to claim second place in 18-49 while drawing its largest overall audience for a regularly scheduled episode to date. CBS did respectable numbers for its “Jericho” clipshow (2.1/6 in 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall), while ABC was again stronger at 8 with “George Lopez” (2.6/7 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) than at 8:30 with “Knights of Prosperity” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall).

At 10, ABC’s “Lost” (5.6/14 in 18-49. 12.8 million viewers overall) remained in control in key demos over CBS’ “CSI: NY” (4.4/11 in 18-49, 14.6 million viewers overall) although the gap closed as the Alphabet drama declined 13% from its week-earlier return and posted its lowest firstrun scores to date; “CSI: NY” won in total viewes. NBC’s “Medium” (3.0/8 in 18-49, 8.6 million viewers overall) remained well behind the other dramas.

Of note at CW was best-yet finale numbers for “Beauty and the Geek” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall), an unscripted skein that had aired its first two editions on the WB. It ran second for the 8 o’clock hour in adults 18-34 (2.4/7).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 8.1/21; CBS, 3.5/9; ABC, 3.3/8; NBC, 2.7/7; Univision, 1.6/4; CW, 1.5/4.

In total viewers: Fox, 20.4 million; CBS, 12.6 million; NBC, 8.6 million; ABC, 7.9 million; Univision, 4.0 million; CW, 3.2 million.
