Telefe Intl. has sold remake rights to Endemol for “Montecristo,” Argentina’s hottest telenovela of last year, and private eye series “Los Simuladores” (The Pretenders).
Endemol will remake “Montecristo,” a revenge tale that touches on issues including drug trafficking, kidnapping and military dictatorships, for Italy, a Telefe Intl. spokeswoman said.
Undisclosed buyers in Russia and Turkey also picked up rights for the novela, loosely based on Alexandre Dumas novel “The Count of Monte Cristo” and airing in adapted versions in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Portugal. The finished program has been sold to more than 45 territories.
In France, Endemol will remake “The Pretenders,” a miniseries resembling “Mission: Impossible” and “The A-Team” that Argentine network Telefe has repeated six times in primetime over the past three years.
In other deals, Fox picked up remake rights to detective drama “Hermanos y detectives” (Brothers and Detectives) for Italy, while Mediaset plans to do a local version there of “Los Roldan” (The Roldans), with production likely in Buenos Aires.
