Canadian networks get dramatic

Two new series are schedules for production

Two new drama series are part of the production slate of Canada’s two leading movie channels. “ZOS: Zone of Separation” is an eight-part drama about U.N. peacekeepers. Series begins shooting in Bosnia in mid-June and then production moves to Canada with a spring-summer 2008 bow skedded on the Movie Network and Movie Central.

“The Weight” is the story of two morally ambiguous cops. Series is created and penned by playwright-screenwriter George F. Walker and his longtime writing partner Dani Romain, the team behind the Gemini Award-winning CBC comic-drama “This Is Wonderland.”

Other projects in development for the two pay channels include a series written and created by Montreal scribe Alex Epstein (“Bon Cop, Bad Cop”) and produced by Robin Cass from Triptych Media; an adaptation of Vincent Lam’s award-winning book “Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures,” to be produced by Shaftesbury and penned by Jason Sherman. There is also a series from writer Angus Fraser and producer Jayme Pfahl, the tandem behind the series “Terminal City.”

Returning series include Shaftesbury Films’ “ReGenesis.”
