BERLIN — BKN New Media, the Spanish subsidiary of Cologne-based animation producer-distrib BKN Intl., has inked a Euros 1.3 million ($1.9 million) deal with Italy’s Cartoon One for the co-production of the animated series “Stone Age.”
In return for the rights to the Italian market and a profit participation in the property, Cartoon agreed to pay $1.9 million, which accounts for 25% of the production budget.
“Stone Age” will be co-produced with BKN’s digital and HD studios in London and Barcelona and Cartoon’s studio in Rome.
Similar to “The Flintstones,” “Stone Age” is a comedy set in the prehistoric town of Rockville and centers on a group of kids who play with iPods (rocks with singing frogs inside) and video games (played with real dinosaurs that are actually inside the TV set).
BKN, which has offices in London, Barcelona and New York, also handles titles such as “Roswell Conspiracies,” “Lilly the Witch,” “Zorro: Generation Z,” “”Legend of the Dragon” and “Dork Hunters from Outer Space.”
