Fremantle secures Asian deals

'Best Years,' 'Love You to Death' among sales

HONG KONG — RTL program sales offshoot FremantleMedia Enterprises has struck a cluster of program licensing deals with Asian broadcasters.

Malaysia’s Media Prima acquired 142 hours of comedy, drama, lifestyle and factual programming, including two new U.S. drama series, “The Best Years” and “Love You to Death,” by “Pink Flamingos” and “Hairspray” helmer John Waters, plus “Mr Bean,” “Martha,” and season two of the entertainment series “American Inventor” and “The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.”

UBC in Thailand picked up more than 120 hours, including FME comedies “The IT Crowd” and “Comedy Inc.,” and factual programming including “Penguin Adventure with Nigel Marven,” “638 Ways to Kill Castro” and “Death in Santaland,” as well as “The Best Years” and “Love You to Death.”

ABS-CBN of the Philippines acquired “The Best Years,” “Love You to Death” and “The Wide Sargasso Sea” as part of a 76 hour package. Another Filipino broadcaster Solar acquired nearly 50 hours of programming, including the latest seasons of “Project Runway” and “America’s Got Talent.”

Mediacorp signed up for “America’s Got Talent” and the second season of both “Janice Dickinson” and “Jamie at Home.”

India’s Zee TV bought “The Best Years.”
