“Starter for Ten” producer Tom Hanks showed his young Brit cast how it’s done during arrivals for the pic’s preem at Hollywood’s ArcLight.
Hanks made sure thesps James McAvoy, Alice Eve, Rebecca Hall and Benedict Cumberbatch — who arrived after Hanks — walked the red-carpet press line. “He spent an hour doing press and then, when the kids arrived, he took them all through it again,” marveled Picturehouse topper and the pic’s distrib, Bob Berney.
At the Les Deux after-party, director Tom Vaughan was still pinching himself that he got his first feature produced with the help of Hanks and Gary Goetzman‘s Playtone. “I don’t think I’ll get this lucky again,” said the helmer, who’s directing “Big Love” episodes and had some of his cast — including Bill Paxton and Chloe Sevigny— in tow.
Pic’s lead McAvoy said Hanks spent a lot of time on the “Starter” set in London while he was shooting “The Da Vinci Code.” McAvoy, who also played opposite Forest Whitaker in “The Last King of Scotland,” said he might miss going to the Oscars this year. He’s headed back to Uganda with the Red Cross to shoot footage of the refugees there to raise awareness and money.
