Scorsese's right-hand-woman takes a bow

BOSTON — Martin Scorsese‘s trusty film editor Thelma Schoonmaker took home the Coolidge Award on April 12 from the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline, Mass.

When asked if it’s hard for the average viewer to appreciate the film editor’s work, the three-time Oscar winner agreed that effective editing is usually invisible, but then pointed to “Raging Bull’s” boxing scenes as a nice contrast.

“Marty and I like to slap the audience in the face sometimes,” she said.
