There was something different about IFG’s annual Eden Roc lunch this year: Lots of new faces, very few empty seats.
Most of those on hand at the gathering of financial heavy hitters attributed it to massive amounts of hedge-fund coin flowing into Hollywood.
“That’s good for the short term,” said one company topper who has seen the many waves of new equity come and go.
“It’s the most crowded I’ve seen it in four years,” added Arsenal’s John Ptak, sampling dessert with D.B. Zwern’s Eileen Burke.
But there were also missing faces. Dutch finance honcho Frans Afman noted it was the first year in 16 that JPMorgan’s John Miller wasn’t on hand. Apparently, the Hotel du Cap didn’t hold a room for him this year, so Miller passed on the whole affair.
