Anyone who didn’t have a star spotting at Monday night’s Gotham preem of Focus Features’ “Evening” just wasn’t trying.
Famous faces came out in droves, including Claire Danes, Vanessa Redgrave, Patrick Wilson, Eileen Atkinsand Glenn Close. Co-star Meryl Streep had to bow out due to a conflict. For the sharp-eyed, there were some recognizable faces below the line, among them scripter Michael Cunningham, author Susan Minot and director Lajos Koltai.Even on the exec front, the event drew a familiar face: ex-Focus co-chief David Linde (now at U), who schmoozed with onetime partner and current Focus topper James Schamus and prexy Andrew Karpen.
After the film screened in Chelsea, the after-party unfolded at the Bowery Hotel, marking the first time the boutique venue has been used for such an event. Maybe it was the novelty of seeing the former Skid Row spot for the first time, or perhaps it was just the sheer ubiquity of names, but a lot of guests were more interested in the view from the expansive terrace than the inside.
Bonus points were awarded to those who spotted these unaffiliated guests: Donna Karan (who co-sponsored the party), Sam Waterston, Edie Falco and Molly Shannon.
