“I want to see everything,” said David Cronenberg of the climactic fight sequence in his new film “Eastern Promises,” screened Tuesday in Gotham. “I want it to be incredibly realistic. People lose sight of the fact that when we say ‘violence,’ we’re talking about the destruction of a human body. It’s not statistics.”
Happily, though, at the Cinema Society-hosted afterparty, the only ways to destroy one’s body involved a wide range of rich food and drink.
Partygoers included co-stars Viggo Mortensen and Vincent Cassel, who plays the unflattering role of a cowardly mob scion. “He’s not someone you’d want to have as a friend, I agree,” said Cassel. “But he’s more than interesting.”
