‘Bucket’ of emotions at premiere

Reiner's 'List' bows at Cinerama Dome

HOLLYWOOD — The biggest challenge for “The Bucket List” helmer Rob Reiner was finding the right mix of humor and heart.

“We didn’t want to cheat the seriousness of the subject but at the same time we didn’t want to make it overly sappy and sentimental,” he said at Sunday’s preem.

In his opening remarks at the Cinerama Dome, Reiner recalled pitching the movie to Warner Bros. prexy Alan Horn; “I wanna make a movie about two older guys dying of cancer, give me $45 million.”

In the film, stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman travel to remote locations like Tanzania and Hong Kong but producer Neil Meron confessed at the Boulevard3 after-party that those scenes were shot with a bit of movie magic.

“It’s in the tradition of classic Hollywood films where you never left L.A. People went home and slept in their own beds,” he said.
