Wong's 'My Blueberry Nights' kicks off fest
It was berries with everything at StudioCanal’s opening-night bash for Wong Kar Wai’s “My Blueberry Nights.”
Film’s party kicked off after the official Cannes reception that followed the film’s unspooling at the Palais.
Company bought 350 kilos of the fruit to concoct copious quanitites of blueberry pie, and the soiree’s 1,200 guests were served Blueberry Night cocktails, a potent mix of whisky and crushed berries.
But helmer Wong, huddled in the VIP corner with the the film’s stars Norah Jones and Jude Law, plus Harvey Weinstein, whose company has U.S. distribution of the road-trip pic, Canal Plus top brass including chairman Bertrand Meheut, and Studio Canal prexy topper Olivier Courson, revealed he’d passed on the refreshments.
“I’ve had enough blueberries,” Wong told Variety.
Other guests happily scoffed on an array of American-themed food served in two open air diners at the venue, decked out to look like a used car lot.
