Audiences in on ‘Ratatouille’ pack

Oswalt the big cheese at Hollywood premiere

HOLLYWOOD — After Friday night’s premiere of “Ratatouille” at the Kodak Theater, Disney and Pixar evoked Paris in the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland, sprinkling the after-party with Gallic stilt walkers, puppeteers, jazz string musicians and, of course, ratatouille.

The preem’s big cheese was Patton Oswalt, who voiced lead protag Remy the rat. Helmer Brad Bird sought to provide Remy with the comedian’s observational sense of humor after hearing Oswalt on the radio.

Having been a character actor on “The King of Queens,” the cult standup considered the “Ratatouille” gig a breakthrough.

“Brad said I could add little things to the story,” said Oswalt, “but I thought I’d be great in this movie if I kept my peanut-butter fingerprints off the script and actually read the one that Brad wrote. It’s like a David Mamet script where the actor says, ‘I’ll get out of the way of this because I’ll look better in it.’ “
