After dropping significant weight for their roles in Werner Herzog‘s war drama “Rescue Dawn,” Christian Bale, Steve Zahn and Jeremy Davies looked healthy and strong at a special unspooling of the pic at the Dolby Screening Room in Midtown on Monday.
Pic, which chronicles the fate of U.S. pilot Dieter Dengler, is based on Herzog’s 1997 docu “Little Dieter Needs to Fly.”
“I watched (the doc) when it came out, and to this day, it is one of my favorites,” Zahn said during a dinner following the screening at Osteria del Circo. “So when I heard it was going to be made into a movie, I was beside myself to get in and meet with Werner. I was prepared to do anything to get a part.”
Zahn, who ended up losing 40 pounds for the role, disclosed that he won the part after two steak dinners with the helmer.
While Bale and Davies joined Zahn at the small gathering, Herzog was a no-show. But the helmer had a good excuse — he was off attending his son’s wedding in the Greek Islands.
