NEW YORK — Prior to Sundance Institute’s 26th annual gala dinner Nov. 5, guests attended a cocktail hour, which included ice-cold lemonade served by Stanley Tucci, Glenn Close, Oliver Platt and Patricia Clarkson.
Once her serving duties were over, Close joined Bette Midler at dinner, where attendees were treated to a surprise performance of “Totally Fucked” by the cast of the Tony award-winning musical “Spring Awakening,” a production that got its start at Sundance Institute’s Theater lab.
Afterward, “Awakening” director Michael Mayer said, “we would have really been totally fucked without Sundance.”
Sundance topper, Robert Redford thanked Sally Field for emceeing the event, and went on to say, “I am so happy not to have to introduce and explain what Sundance is but instead let the story be told by the artists who go through the process and bear the results. For so many years there was no other recourse except for me to get up here and say blah, blah, blah.”
