Rosie Perez

Director whose documentary on New York's annual Puerto Rican Day Parade, "Yo soy Boricua, pa'que tu lo sepas!" released Tuesday on DVD

Last book I bought:
“The Known World” by Edward P. Jones

Book I’m reading:
I read two at a time. “Next Stop: Growing Up Wild Style in the Bronx” by Ivan Sanchez
“Genesis” by Eduardo Galeano — a weird trilogy about the Caribbean and Central America and how the Spaniards discovered the islands and slaughtered all the people but it’s written in a very poetic way. You are going to bug out. It’s actually quite disturbing so I’m reading it very slowly. George C. Wolfe gave it to me as a gift.

Total number of books I own:
Oh, my God, I don’t know. I have a mini library downstairs, a library upstairs and one in Los Angeles. I’m a nerd! It’s a good secret; I’ve kept through the years.

Three books that mean a lot to me:
“The Princess Bride” by William Goldman
“Another Country” by James Baldwin
“Mutts” by Patrick McDonnell

Last film I saw:
“The Lives of Others,” directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck

Three films that mean a lot to me:
Billy Wilder’s “Double Indemnity” — it was the first time I looked at film outside of just storytelling. The lighting, music, the whole film noir just fascinated me.
Blake Edwards’ “Days of Wine and Roses” — the first film that I saw Jack Lemmon play a serious role and white-collared folks living as f**** up as everyone else.
“Saturday Night Fever,” directed by John Badham — I love it, I love it, I love it.

Last CD I bought:
I don’t by CDs, “Swanee,” Al Jolson, on iTunes.

Song currently playing:
“The Mexican,” Babe Ruth

Songs that mean a lot to me:
“Heaven,” Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong — I sing it before every Broadway performance.
“That’s the Way of the World,” Earth, Wind & Fire
“Memory Lane,” Minnie Riperton

Favorite drink:
Spanish coffee, Margaritas on the rocks no salt

Favorite charity:
Outside my own Working Playground charity, any AIDS charity.

Favorite vacation:
Rincon, Puerto Rico — and I’m pissed off a lot of Americans have discovered it.

Favorite vice:
Sex and dark chocolate — excuse me, making love and dark chocolate

Five people who I’d like to see answer this survey:
George C. Wolfe, Christiane Amanpour — the CNN correspondent, Bill Maher, my cousin Sixto, Jeffrey Wright
