Michael Sheen

Michael Sheen stars as David Frost in 'Frost/Nixon' on Broadway

Last book I bought: “American Gods” by Neil Gaiman

Book I’m reading: “Dionysos” by Richard Seaford

Total number of books I own: Far too many to count and probably more than I could ever read

Three books that mean a lot to me:

“The Hero with a Thousand Faces” by Joseph Campbell — a constant source of inspiration and solace

“His Dark Materials Trilogy” by Philip Pullman –the only story I have felt something akin to grief at it being over

Any book of Kenneth Tynan’s theater criticism — one of the main reasons I became an actor and why I continue to be one

Last film I saw: Barry Levinson’s “The Natural” on DVD — finally realized what an incredible film actor Robert Redford is

Three films that mean a lot to me:

Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s “A Matter Of Life And Death” — Every frame is perfect. It works for me emotionally, intellectually and aesthetically. And it has that elusive quality of strangeness that all great works of art have.

Jim Sheridan’s “In The Name Of The Father ” — After I watched it the first time, I felt that to talk about how good Daniel Day-Lewis was in it would be to detract from his achievement. It is a perfect example of an actor giving everything to serve the story.

Francis Ford Coppola’s “Apocalypse Now” — Probably the film I have watched more than any other and I find something new in it every time. It has such complexity, boldness and insanity. It has a terrible beauty.

Last CD I bought: “For Your Pleasure,” Roxy Music

Song currently playing: “Time Was,” Wishbone Ash

Songs that mean a lot to me:

“Song to the Siren,” the King — It’s a Cocteau Twins song performed by an Irish Elvis impersonator. It makes me think of my daughter and is one of the most achingly beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.

“Times Like These,” Foo Fighters — helped me through a difficult time

“Mustt Mustt,” Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan — possibly the greatest singer of all time, making words and music become something that defies description

Favorite Drink: A really good Bordeaux

Favorite Charity: National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) and Mind

Favorite Vacation: The one that I will eventually take to the North Pole to watch the Aurora Borealis while in a polar bear outfit

Favorite Vice:  Taking crack while having drunken sex with under-age flying monkeys

Five people who I’d like to see answer this survey:

Bill O’Reilly, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Donald Trump, Michael Bay, Dennis Rodman
